Trying to figure out your passion in life to pursue as a career can be somewhat of a puzzle—especially if you're a multi-passionate person like me with so many options to choose from. So, if you're trying to discover yours and figure out how to pursue it as a career, then read closely.
Here's my take on passion:
Passion is the fire in your belly that animates you and compels you to do, be and create amazing things with your life. It's the spark of inspiration and excitement behind what you do.
When you are passionate about your career, your love for what you do rubs off on all the people around you and inspires them. From the people you work with to the people your work serves. Being passionate about what you do will carry you through the less exciting moments and inspire you to stick with it through thick and thin. There are moments in every job where we just aren't feeling it and we need to put our nose to the grindstone to get something done, BUT when you love what you do even those moments offer a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment because your efforts and energy are going towards something you genuinely take pride in doing.
If you're not sure what you're passionate about, ask yourself these questions:
1. What makes you excited to jump out of bed in the morning?
2. What can you not wait to do when you get off work?
3. What would you do if money weren't an issue?
4. What makes you feel alive?
Your passion lies in the answers to these questions. It's your reason WHY meaning, the reason you keep doing something day after day after day even when you come across challenges and struggles.
Because here's the truth:
When you are truly passionate about something, you will do it no matter who or what stands in your way.
You will do it no matter what the circumstances may be. You will do it regardless of whether or not you gain recognition, praise or even money. You do it simply because you love it and it brings joy to your life. This is why doing work and choosing a career aligned with your passions is so life-changing.
Think about it this way, the reality is we all have to choose a job/work/career to earn money and pay the bills. Whatever we choose to do is something we will be doing for the majority of our lives. If you consider the amount of time and energy you're going to invest in this line of work over the course of your life, then why wouldn't you choose a career that energizes you and makes you feel alive?!
The goal isn't to "pay your dues" and wait for retirement. The goal in financial independence and doing something that makes you happy.
When you choose your passion over a paycheck, it will bring more meaning and fulfillment to all aspects of your life.
If you have multiple passions like me and no idea which one to pick and pursue as a career, think about how you can blend them all together.
Find the common theme or connective tissue linking them all together and search for careers that incorporate those things OR better yet, think of how you can create a career for yourself that taps into each of the things you love.
If you already know your passions and you're ready to pursue it, then let's work together to make it a reality!
Whether it's a fire in your belly or a fire under your ass, you need to get FIRED UP to pursue your passion in life.
